Palmer Place

Group Home and Affordable Housing

Location: Campbell River, BC

This project for the Campbell River and District Association for Community Living, replaced a group home for 4 residents. The new home is comprised of a 4 bedroom dwelling with a kitchen, dining, laundry, offices, assisted bathing, meeting rooms, and a large communal living room with quiet areas and areas for entertainment. The home is now fully occupied.

As part of the same project, 3 apartment buildings of 8 units each were constructed along with a community building for common meeting space. Extensive landscaping was incorporated into the site and in addition to housing clients of CRADACL, the project accommodates clients of the Campbell River and North Island Transition Society for women. Designed to include all of the residents as members of this small community, the buildings are clustered around a central open space containing the community building, a large green play space for children, and an area where staff and residents can engage in gardening.

The Project was completed in the Spring of 2012 and is currently awaiting confirmation of Certification under LEED Canada for Homes (Gold).
