Newell Residence

Location: Victoria

A single family dwelling constructed in 1952 and in somewhat shabby condition provided the basis for this reconstruction and expansion project. The renovation dealt with a re-planned and more functional layout on the ground floor and a new master bedroom, bathroom and lounge / bedroom on the second storey. A steeply pitched metal clad roof provided enclosure for the second floor space resulting in a much larger house that doesn’t stray beyond it’s original footprint and does not overpower its small single family neighbours.

Custom made Douglas fir windows, trims and floors create a warm and inviting interior while oiled cedar shingles, Galvalume sheet metal, natural local granite and colourful painted highlights provide interest and contrast on the exterior elevations.
