    Margaret graduated from the Architecture Program at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, following completion of a Bachelor of Architecture with Honours (1987) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture (1988). She has been involved in a variety of institutional, commercial, and residential projects in the UK, the US, and Canada. Arriving in Victoria in 1992, Margaret joined the Architectural Institute of British Columbia in 1993.

    Projects completed on the Island include; University of Victoria Lam Student Housing and 'Ring Road' 294 - Bed Residence, various Bank of Montreal branches, Mount St. Mary Hospital Interiors, Island Farms Cold Storage, Broadmead Dementia Lodge Renovations, as well as various Aquatic Centers off-Island in Aspen, Colorado, and Aberdeen, Washington.

    Joining Joe Newell Architect Inc. in 2008, Margaret has enjoyed working with many Vancouver Island non-profit societies, including the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (Rosalie’s Village, Kirkpatrick Warehouse, Ozanam Centre Renovations), The Cool Aid Society (Access Health Centre, Queens Manor), M'akola Housing Society (Hope Centre, Braidwood Apartments) and the Capital Region Housing Corporation (Westview).

    In each of her projects, Margaret encourages the participatory nature of the design process, working with the owner and/or end user to provide a tailored solution specific to their requirements.
