News for May 2017
It's been a while since our last update. Exciting new and existing projects have been keeping us very busy. 2016 saw us complete two BC Housing projects. Our project for The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, Rosalie's Village, opened in late 2016, to house 41 households including single women and single mother families. The daycare, Mary's Place, is also up and running.
Cottage Grove meanwhile, opened its doors to the first of its residents at the end of January.
In Courtenay, the 'I Belong' Outreach Centre and housing project is nearing completion, with an anticipated opening sometime in May.
This large project in View Royal will provide 60 rental apartments in two buildings on one of two remaining lots in the Lakeview Village community near Thetis Lake. Designed for the Pacific Coast Land Company and slated to start construction in early summer of 2017, this project will provide 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments along with underground parking and ample bicycle storage.
301 Nursery Hill Drive
The final lot to be developed in the Lakeside Village community. Developed for another client, this project for West Urban Developments will see 63 rental apartments and 7 townhouses for sale on this sloped site right next to Nursery Hill Park. This project will also feature a fully underground parking garage. The townhouses provide individual garages for each unit and feature a southern exposure towards the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. Views from the apartments will feature Esquimalt Harbour, the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains in the distance.
One year ago we started working with 5 different housing societies developing various sites with schematic plans with which applications were made to BC Housing for funding under the Provincial Investment in Affordable Housing (PIAH) program. We are currently busy with all 5 projects having recieved notification in late 2016 that all 5 applications were successful.
In Courtenay, BC, we are working on 35 apartments for the M'Akola Housing Society at 810 Braidwood Avenue.
Closer to home in Sooke, The Knox Vixion Society will see 42 rental apartments constructed on the site containing the Knox Presbyterian Church on Church Road and Waddam's Way.
In Brentwood Bay on the Saanich Peninsula, The Greater Victoria Housing Society will be building 40 apartments for low income individuals and couples. Much needed rental housing in this area to accommodate low income workers as well as seniors.
The Gorge View Society will continue their tradition of providing quality affordable rental housing by building 3 family townhouses on a portion of their large Chown Place property fronting onto Irma Street in Victoria.
And one of the final pieces of the Mount View master plan on Carey Road in Saanich will see the Capital Region Housing Corporation construct 73 1, 2 and 3 bedroom rental apartments in a 4 storey building.
Community Living Victoria
We are pleased to be working with Community Living Victoria on both their new Group Home on Wascana Street in Saanich as well as on a renovation of their existing home at 595 Burnside Road. Wascana is nearing completion and once the Burnside Road residents move into the new home, work will begin on the older dwelling on Burnside Road.
It's shaping up to be a very busy year and to help us see all of these projects through to a successful completion, we welcomed Ian Welsh to our firm in January. Ian brings a solid 25 years + experience in building technology in Victoria to our firm and will contribute to our projects as one of our two senior technologists. Linda Monette, meanwhile, joined us in late January as our new Office Manager. She comes to our firm with 16 + years in a previous firm, and will be handling all of the myriad tasks associated with keeping our office functioning smoothly.
We're excited about the projects we have on the go in the coming years and we look forwared to continuing to serve our growing list of satisfied clients from our great new location in View Royal.
